Official Gmail Blog: Update on today's Gmail outage
Gmail went out today for longer than you might ever expect from this service. Fortunately, though, it looks like they were trying to do something nice - make our data connections stay closer to us. This seems like a good thing, because in the long term our data and information will travel through less of the internet's pipes, thus taking up less of the limited bandwidth our internet has.
On a side note, hopefully President Obama's stimulus will include a lot for the additional bandwidth and fiber optic lines we need.
